Marquette Method
The Marquette Method of Natural Family Planning was invented in 1999 by Dr. Richard Fehring, PhD, RN, FAAN.
The method uses the Clearblue Fertility Monitor to measure levels of estrogen and luteinizing hormone in the urine.
This method enables users to accurately identify a woman’s fertile window to either achieve or avoid pregnancy.
There are special protocols designed for women with regular cycles, irregular cycles, in the postpartum breastfeeding state, or in perimenopause.
How effective is Marquette?
Under perfect use conditions, the Marquette Method is between 98-100% effective at avoiding pregnancy and comparable to the oral contraceptive pill.
There is also evidence that using Marquette to focus intercourse on high or peak fertility days increases the probability of achieving pregnancy.

How much does Marquette cost?
Marquette is taught by medical professionals (i.e. nurses or physicians) who have completed training through Marquette University.
The cost of instruction ranges from $150-$300.
The Clearblue Advanced Fertility monitor costs around $200.
The Clearblue fertility test sticks cost around $1.50 each. On average, 10 test sticks are required per month depending on the length of the cycles.
The monitor and test sticks can be purchased from Amazon or Costco Online.
The above fees are not covered by MSP, but may be covered by an extended health insurance plan with a physician’s prescription (which we can provide).
